New publication and technical sheet: "Promoting Intersectoral Synergies between Agriculture, Environment and Natural Disaster Risks"

This document briefly describes the objectives of the first seven projects selected to receive a EUROCLIMA+ grant in the Resilient Food Production (RFP)
sector and puts them into context with projects supported in the sectors of Forests, Biodiversity and Ecosystems (BBE), and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

The EUROCLIMA+ programme promotes the exchange of lessons learned and best practices generated in these projects among the 18 Latin American partner countries. Their capitalisation will strengthen individual, organisational and institutional competencies for the management of NDC-related processes.

To support the scope of the results defined for the EUROCLIMA+ RFP sector, in the framework of the development of the Technical Assistance Strategy for the sector, an analysis was done of possible intersectoral synergies between the actions offered by the CG operational component of EUROCLIMA+ and projects selected until the end of March 2019 by the operational components of the programme: RFP, FBE and DRR.

The projects subsidised by EUROCLIMA+ share a territorial approach generating experiences from the local level to the national level with international exchanges contemplating one to several agricultural items or value chains. Comparing objectives and goals of the projects in the RFP, FBE and DRR sectors, the following areas of cooperation are identified to generate possible synergies between the projects:

- sustainable integrated management of natural resources;
- rural financing mechanisms;
- early warning systems and management of hydro-climatic risks (floods and droughts).

Synergies can be exploited at the operational level, e.g. by developing joint studies in shared territories or joint operational planning in territories shared by several projects, or at the strategic level, e.g. through knowledge management means such as communities
of practice, webinar series, thematic workshops or multi-sector human resources training.
