06 October 2021 - The Experience Exchange between producers from Bolivia and Peru was successfully held in Ecuador. The objective was to strengthen their cañahua and tarwi production chains
through the knowledge shared between producers from Ecuador and the 15 producers, micro-entrepreneurs and technicians from Bolivia and Peru, beneficiaries of the project Promoting the Heritage of Our Ancestors; Resilient Production, Marketing and Consumption of Cañahua and Tarwi, of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme in the Resilient Food Production Sector financed by the European Union and implemented by Swisscontact.
The Andean Resilience - Ecuador project, implemented by the Acra Foundation, hosted a visit to different production points in the province of Cotopaxi, where experiences were shared at the agro-ecological fair De la Mata a la Olla; the canton of Latacunga with a resilient family agriculture production chain for different associations; San Isidro community with the recovery of cangahua soil, water management, family agriculture, paramo; Chugchilán community, visit to the Chocho (tarwi) processing plant; and in the canton of Mejía with a visit to the National Institute of Agricultural Research INIAP, a discussion about Chocho production and a visit to its plantations.

The coordinator of the Andean Resilience project, Martha Pacheco Venegas, highlighted the importance of experience exchanges among producers "For us, this set of activities has also been very enriching, because our Bolivian brothers and sisters also shared their experiences and knowledge of cañahua and tarwi production with us. We hope that the work we have shown them will be useful."

Victoria Vásquez Mamani, a Tarwi farmer from northern Potosí, Bolivia, expressed her gratitude for the activities that have contributed to her resilient agricultural activities. "From what I have learned here, I am taking with me knowledge about the production of biol, agroecological fertilisers, and the management of resilient planting of tarwi and cañahua, which will be very useful in the practices of my region," she said.

About the project "Resilient Heritage of the Andes, Cañahua and Tarwi"
The project promotes the resilience of rural farmer production systems in the Bolivian and Peruvian highlands, strengthening the Cañahua and Tarwi production complexes by improving the production, marketing and consumption of superfoods that are part of the food heritage of both countries, benefiting 1,200 producer families.
