The UNEP has developed the “Zero Carbon Latin America and the Caribbean: the opportunity, cost and benefits of the coupled decarbonization of the power and transport sectors” report as a follow up to an earlier analysis released at COP 21 (December 2015) on a pathway for full decarbonization of the regional economy in Latin America (UNEP Zero Carbon Latin America, 2015). The report will be followed by an analysis on land use options and oceans as a central anchor for decarbonization strategies in Latin America and the Caribbean, scheduled to be completed by COP 26 (December 2020).
The objective of this report is to illustrate the opportunity, costs and benefits of the coupled decarbonization of the power and transport sectors in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region by mid-century. The report also presents on the ground examples, from successful policies to business models, which signal a potential coupled decarbonization transition. If escalated, would put the region in a virtuous scenario, raising the ambition of next generation of Nationally Determined Contributions to the Paris Agreement (NDCs).

This book presents the results of more than a decade of work carried out by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) on the economics of climate change. It analyses the conclusive global data and the impact of climate change in the region, examining sectors such as agriculture, health, transport and energy. In particular, it addresses the effects of climate change on the two most vulnerable subregions, Central America and the Caribbean, and gives an account of the agreements reached in the region to tackle the problem of global warming.
Este estudio aborda los aspectos relacionados con la ambición en materia de adaptación al cambio climático presentes en las contribuciones determinadas a nivel nacional de los países de América Latina y el Caribe. Se identifican las principales vulnerabilidades e impactos del cambio climático en la región, profundizando en aquellos sectores de mayor relevancia.
This report presents intermediate results of a broader analysis of the economic responses to the COVID-19 crisis in the LAC region, and how the allocated investments can accelerate the economic recovery phase while meeting climate change goals. The report has been developed thanks to an investment tracking tool, the LAC Recovery Tracker, which analyses over 1,100 policies to provide a live snapshot on spending in the region. The LAC Recovery Tracker is a subset of the larger Global Recovery Observatory.i

Fue desarrollada en el marco del proyecto: Producción resiliente de alimentos en sistemas hortícolas-ganaderos de la Agricultura Familiar en regiones climáticamente vulnerables de Argentina y Colombia.
