A joint regional event in which a series of virtual activities will take place between September and December 2020. The events will start with a launch on 2, 3 and 4 September.
San José, Costa Rica, August 28, 2020. The health and economic crisis generated by the COVID-19 virus poses the challenge of not neglecting the climate issues and commitments already made by the region, which also take on greater priority today due to the urgent need for a post-pandemic green recovery. With a special focus on these challenges, EUROCLIMA+, together with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the LEDS LAC platform will develop a joint regional event entitled: Climate Action in Times of Crisis. Promoting sustainable recovery after COVID-19 in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This joint regional event, which will be completely virtual, will run from September to December 2020 and will contain various sessions (virtual activities). In general, each of the planned sessions will pay special attention to the efforts that countries are making in designing their long-term strategies; reviewing and updating their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs); and moving forward with the implementation of their current NDCs.
The programming of the event will be structured through three thematic axes: Long-term strategies, led by the IDB; Updating NDCs and increasing ambition, organised by the EUROCLIMA+ initiative Dialogue among Peers and UNDP; and the sectoral action axis: transport, which will be the responsibility of Sustentar.
