The second Technical and Sectoral Dialogue Table is part of EUROCLIMA+'s technical assistance in the country.
Tegucigalpa, February 21, 2020. Completing the NDC and the national objectives of emission reductions requires the participation and commitment of various productive sectors. To this end, climate financial inclusion has the potential to become a powerful and effective tool to combat the effects of climate change and achieve the objectives set forth in the NDC by Honduras.
In this context, the second Technical and Sectoral Dialogue Table on Climate Financial Inclusion in Honduras was held on February 19, with the participation of representatives from 25 institutions of the public sector, unions and associations of the private productive sector, commercial banking and civil society.
On this occasion, the Technical and Sectoral Dialogue Table focused on understanding financial inclusion and its relationship to climate change; establishing a knowledge base with current and potential actors, and also advancing in the motivation of actors from the productive sectors to get involved through the adoption of these types of measures.
Three success stories were presented at the meeting, which allowed for the exchange of experiences and the highlighting of relevant actions that provided insight into various aspects of climate finance and its application.
The experiences presented addressed various areas of climate finance, allowing participants to learn about different strategies and mechanisms.
This led to the presentation of GIZ's AMPAZ project in Colombia and the work carried out to create green lines and gain access to green productive credits with better conditions for producers to adopt better practices through financing associated with national development banks; the "De mi tierra" project was presented by EcoBusiness Fund in association with Funder to show the creation of a trust fund as a financial inclusion tool for local producers that allows them to improve their income and production by adopting adaptation measures to climate change; and finally, the PROAMERICA group’s DECAFESA project in Nicaragua showed how thanks to climate financial inclusion they have been able to double their productivity and even achieve international certifications that have allowed them to penetrate specialised markets.
This meeting, facilitated by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and led by the presidential Clima+ office, is part of the Country Dialogue between Honduras and the EUROCLIMA+ programme to support the implementation of its NDC, which seeks to advance the formulation and implementation of a Climate Financial Inclusion (IFC) policy that promotes the implementation of measures and initiatives from the productive sector to collaborate in the fight against climate change.
