December 3, 2019, Madrid, Spain. EUROCLIMA+ is the European Union's flagship programme working on climate change in close alliance with 18 Latin American countries. This year, with the Chilean Presidency of COP 25, the opportunity was opened even more to reaffirm the determination of both regions to orient their development towards a more sustainable and just world. How can we move forward on this path? What instruments are needed to plan actions? What experience and capacities are needed to move quickly in the desired direction? What are the main challenges, and in what order? These are some of the questions that are beginning to be heard most strongly between the two continents.

On the other hand, the experience of the European Union and its member states in facing the challenges of climate change can serve as a reference to share with Latin American countries. What can the different instruments that crystallise international cooperation between the two regions contribute along this path, particularly through the EUROCLIMA+ Programme?

Looking for a large part of the answers to these inquiries, the EUROCLIMA+ programme plans to hold an event entitled: EUROCLIMA+: an interregional platform to strengthen climate action in Latin America. The objective of this session will be to present, share and debate about the achievements and challenges of the processes carried out in the European Union and Latin America to strengthen climate ambition. To highlight how the cooperation between both regions, particularly the EUROCLIMA+ programme, can play a relevant role in this direction.

This event will take place in the European Union pavilion, located in the blue zone of the @COP25 venue, with the participation of the following panellists.

• Carolina Schmidt, President COP25, Minister of Environment of Chile, will enlighten us on the challenges and strategies in application in Latin America, and particularly Chile, to confront climate change and ensure greater ambition in the region.
• Manuel Pulgar Vidal, WWF, President COP20, former Environment Minister of Peru, will address the main challenges facing Latin America in climate change.
• Raúl Clemente Ledesma, Minister of Environment of Ecuador, will address the measures that Ecuador is implementing to achieve climate commitments, with a special emphasis on activities in cooperation with the European Union.
• Mauro Petriccione, Director General of Action for the Climate, DG CLIMA, European Commission, will present the Green Deal. A model for Latin America?
• Teresa Ribera, Spain's Minister of Ecological Transition, will discuss Spain's new ambition, providing lessons for Latin American countries.

The conversation will be moderated by Miguel Barreiro, Meteorologist of TVE.

The organisers of the event invite the public present at COP25 (Madrid, Spain) to join them this coming Friday, December 6 from 10:45 to 12 noon. There will also be transmission via Facebook Live on the @EUROCLIMAplus channel.
