An event dedicated to highlighting how cooperation between Latin America and Europe can achieve greater climate ambition.
Brussels, Belgium October 02, 2019. “It is essential that we are able to share the experience of the European Union and its member states in the fight against climate change. This experience can serve Latin American countries, and at the same time we also need to know what is the experience in Latin America> This is the main objective of this EUROCLIMA+ event during preCOP25,” said Felice Zaccheo, Head of Unit, Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development of the European Union.
Under the title “Strengthening the alliance between the European Union and Latin America for greater climate ambition”, the European Union-funded EUROCLIMA+ programme will hold an event on Tuesday, October 8 at 3 pm in the central hall 2 (green room for the preCOP) with the participation of:
- Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of ECLAC presenting the status of climate commitments in Latin America
- Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, Minister of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica: Presenting Costa Rica's Experience
- Carolina Schmidt, President COP 25, Minister of the Environment of Chile: Presenting Chile's Experience
- Leo Heileman, UN Environment Regional Director, Latin America and the Caribbean: presenting Support for long-term strategies in 5 countries under the EUROCLIMA+ framework
It is also planned to open a discussion on the role of international cooperation between the European Union and Latin America in increasing climate ambition, which will include words from the following speakers:
- Juan Manuel Murguia, Senior Specialist in Natural Resources, Climate Change and Sustainable Development Sector, IDB
- Inma Zamora, General Secretary of FIIAPP, Spain
- Jessica Huertas, Ministry of Environment, EUROCLIMA+ National Focal Point, Peru
