Paraguay holds Dialogue on Climate Agenda

Asunción, Paraguay March 16, 2019.

Officials from the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) of Paraguay, together with representatives of EUROCLIMA+, a cooperation programme financed by the European Union, will meet from March 19 to 20 this year to hold an event on the Climate Agenda of Paraguay.

The institutions that make up the National Commission on Climate Change will participate in the meeting, as well as other organisations relevant in the implementation of national climate action, from the public sector and from civil society, the private sector and academia.

In preparation for the fulfilment of the commitments of the Paris Agreement, MADES formulated a proposal in 2018 for the Implementation Plan of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). At the end of the same year, the country submitted its second Biennial Update Report (BUR) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. In this context, MADES considers it convenient to review the NDC Implementation Plan considering the inputs generated by the second BUR and the priorities of the new government, which is why this discussion is an ideal starting point for the Dialogue Roundtable to be held next week.

The objective of the event is to create a space for harmonisation to identify and define the details of the NDC implementation plan in a participatory manner, while also formulating proposals for policies, actions and projects for consideration by the National Commission on Climate Change, which in turn will enhance the permanent dialogue between MADES and EUROCLIMA+ to define actions based on the needs and priorities identified by the country.
