Intersectoral workshop for the prevention and management of extreme hydrometeorological phenomena and adaptation measures to climate change
From December 17 to 19, 2018, within the framework of the Climate Governance component of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme, FIIAPP as the coordinating agency of the component, is participating in the 'Intersectoral Workshop for the Prevention and Management of Extreme Hydrometeorological Phenomena and Adaptation Measures to Climate Change for Andean countries and the Southern Cone’ held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia).
The objective of this activity is to identify common priorities in the field of extreme hydrometeorological phenomena management, such as floods and droughts, and to exchange experiences regarding governance for adaptation to climate change and the development of tools for management and planning.
The initiative aims to be a starting point for joint action in this area and it also responds to the weight that this issue has on the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) under the Paris Agreement for the countries of the region. As a result, the lines of work that FIIAPP can accompany under the EUROCLIMA+ Climate Governance component are expected to be identified for country support.
The workshop is aimed at members of the Conference of Ibero-American Directors of Meteorological and Hydrological Services (CIMHET), the Conference of Ibero-American Water Directors (CODIA), and the Ibero-American Network of Climate Change Offices (RIOCC) of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, and it has support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
The EUROCLIMA+ programme, funded by the European Union, promotes environmentally sustainable development in 18 Latin American countries, particularly for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations. EUROCLIMA+ also provides technical and financial support for the development and application of adaptation and mitigation policies in the face of climate change. The implementing agencies that are part of the Climate Governance component of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme are GIZ, ECLAC and UN Environment.
