Installation of a probe for automatic transmission of water quality data in the Santa Lucia River Basin

The probe will be used for continuous monitoring of water quality in Paso Severino, and for modeling tools used by the Ministry of Environment in the framework of the Adaptation in Action - Santa Lucia Watershed project.

6 February 2023. Last Friday, February 3rd, a new buoy with an automatic water quality data transmission probe was installed at the Paso Severino Dam, located in the lower course of the Santa Lucia Chico River, in the department of Florida. The probe is expected to be used in the continuous monitoring of the water quality of Paso Severino, as well as an input to the modelling tools used by the Ministry of Environment.

The Adaptation in Action - Santa Lucía Basin project adopts technology and modelling for the management of water resources in the Santa Lucía River basin with the aim of ensuring the quantity and quality of the drinking water supply for 60% of the Uruguayan population. To achieve this goal, the project uses three management models of the European Institute of Applied Research (DELTARES) in conjunction with various Uruguayan entities with expertise in water, environment and climate change: the hydrological model, the quality model and the water management model.

This project is funded by the European Union through the Euroclima+ programme, which delegates funds to the implementing agencies: the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

The activity was also carried out through a joint work between the National Water Directorate (Dinagua) and the National Directorate for Environmental Quality and Assessment (Dinacea), in the framework of the Adaptation in Action-Santa Lucia Basin project.

In addition, the bid for this activity was awarded to the company Techingenium, a supplier of measuring and control instruments.
