The initiative is intended to be a platform for the periodical prospection and formulation of relevant content for the public and private sector on this technology.
Brasilia, 24 October 2022. The decarbonisation of energy matrices is a key step towards achieving global climate goals. In this regard, hydrogen manufacturing has a fundamental role in providing energy in a clean, safe and sustainable way.
Within this framework, the start of the process of creating the Sustainable Hydrogen Industry Observatory was held on 13 October.
This is an initiative of the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry - CNI through the Environment and Sustainability Management (GEMAS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, the Undersecretariat of Green Economy and the Energy Institute of PUC Rio, with the support of the EUROCLIMA Programme, implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH.
The Observatory aims to promote the dissemination of original and useful information to support industry decision-making processes for the development of sustainable hydrogen projects as a decarbonisation strategy. Through the CNI, a portal/observatory will be made available, with regular prospecting and formulation of original and relevant content for CNI members on the production, transport, distribution and use of sustainable hydrogen in industry, as well as a customised technical-economic assessment tool for use by members to help them make decisions on the use of this clean energy. Davi Bomtempo, Executive Manager of Environment and Sustainability, and Juliana Falcão, Climate and Energy Manager, highlighted the importance of CNI's innovation agenda, which includes the hydrogen strategy as a viable alternative for industry and with the potential to position Brazil as a central player at international level. The Observatory will support this process to guide actions on critical issues such as regulation and infrastructure.
The Undersecretary of Green Economy of the Ministry of Economy, Carlos Henrique Carvalho, and his team reaffirmed their commitment to follow the process to launch the hydrogen public policy in Brazil.
The platform will be available approximately in June 2023 and can be accessed by searching for it at https://www.portaldaindustria.com.br/
