Colombia initiates Regional dialogues with the Education Sector to contribute to the updating of the National Environmental Education Policy and the National Strategy for Education,
Training and Public Awareness on Climate Change.
Bogotá, 19 September - During the month of September, participatory workshops are being held to contribute to the revision of the National Strategy for Education, Training and Public Awareness on Climate Change in the framework of the Colombian Strategy for Low Carbon, Adapted and Climate Resilient Development (ECDBCAR), which is being supported by the EUROCLIMA+ programme through the International and Ibero-America Foundation for Administration and Public Policy (FIIAPP). The dialogue process is being led by the Ministry of National Education, with the support of Fondo Acción, Diálogos Improbables and the Colombian Association of Universities (ASCUN).
These meetings aim to develop spaces for dialogue with the formal education sector on the practical exercise of education in sustainability, environmental protection and the fight against climate change, with the objective of providing inputs for the development of the education, training and awareness-raising goals of the NDC, as well as responding to the main challenges we face as humanity in the face of climate change. In this regard, education is understood as a key tool for the empowerment of girls, boys and young people.
With the implementation of this initiative, it will be possible to share learning from educational experiences and ideas for strengthening sustainability education. The inputs will be used in processes led from the national level, such as the updates of the National Strategy for Education, Training and Public Awareness on Climate Change (ACE strategy of the country) and the National Policy on Environmental Education, in compliance with the country's commitments on climate change (NDC and E2050).
The dialogue spaces have brought together actors from all levels of education, including kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, local Education Secretariats and higher education institutions, including public, private, urban and rural entities. The dialogues have been organised during this month of September in all regions of the country, in 6 spaces: Amazonia and Orinoquia; Eje Cafetero and Antioquia; Bogota; Central Region; Pacific and Caribbean.
