The platform continues to consolidate its position as a benchmark for the green hydrogen sector in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Almost 50 representatives of the public, private and international cooperation sectors from 12 countries in the region: Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Dominican Republic and Uruguay met in person at a Workstream Exchange Workshop "Initiative for the strengthening of the articulation and promotion of green hydrogen in Latin America and the Caribbean", in the framework of the work of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH), organised together with the H2LAC platform.
The initiative included a visit to Ad Astra's green hydrogen pilot plant in Liberia, Costa Rica and training on green hydrogen by the same company.
The exchange sessions focused on strengthening knowledge management between the countries of the region and exchanging experiences and best practices related to the development of green hydrogen for the region between GIZ's green hydrogen project partners in Latin America and the Caribbean and partners and counterparts from the countries. Among the projects presented were the PtX Hub of Germany, a global project that aims to accelerate the development of the power-to-X market on a global scale; the H2LAC Platform, as well as various GIZ energy projects in the region.
One of the products of the meeting was the development of a joint study with the consulting firm HINICIO, which identified more than 80 green hydrogen projects (both in development and in operation) in the region for various purposes, such as energy generation, use in mobility, as an industrial raw material or even for export. The result was an infographic that presents the status of green hydrogen development in Latin America and the Caribbean, and includes an analysis of roadmaps by country (available at: https://h2lac.org/archivos/infografia-sobre-el-estado-del-hidrogeno-verde-en-america-latina-y-el-caribe/).
GIZ's internal project dates back to 2021, when the Workstream offered training focused on "The role of the State in the development of Green Hydrogen", aimed at both GIZ technicians and public and private sector decision-makers in 13 countries where GIZ is present through its projects. The result of this work has made it possible to visualise the diversity of actions related to green hydrogen, delineate gaps and promote possible regional synergies in a topic that is becoming more relevant in the region's energy agendas.
About H2LAC
H2LAC is a collaborative platform that aims to boost the development of green hydrogen in Latin America and the Caribbean in order to promote its production, use and export. It was created in 2020 by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) together with the World Bank, ECLAC and the European Union's Euroclima+ Programme to foster cooperation and exchange between different stakeholders and accelerate the advancement of green hydrogen in the region.
As of February 2022, the Platform began accepting institutional partners, and as of early September already has 32 partners in 14 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, including ministries (energy, environment or equivalent), chambers of commerce, hydrogen or renewable energy associations, and universities and think tanks.

About EUROCLIMA+
EUROCLIMA+ is a programme funded by the European Union and co-financed by the German federal government through the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), as well as by the governments of France and Spain through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation.
The Programme's mission is to reduce the impact of climate change and its effects in 18 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting mitigation, adaptation, resilience and climate investment. It is implemented in the spirit of "Team Europe" under the synergistic work of seven agencies: the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the AFD Group: French Development Agency (AFD)/ Expertise France (EF), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the International and Ibero-America Foundation for Administration and Public Policy (FIIAPP), the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH, and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
