Twelve proposals from eight sectors have been prioritised for research on climate change issues. The research will provide key information for decision making and the preparation of the National Strategy for Decarbonisation and Climate Resilience of Honduras (ENDRCH) 2020-2050.
Tegucigalpa, 10 June 2022. The strategic alliance between the European Union and Honduras through the EUROCLIMA+ programme supports the development of the National Strategy for Decarbonisation and Climate Resilience of Honduras (ENDRCH) 2020-2050, an action implemented in the country jointly through the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Public Administration and Policy (FIIAPP) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH.
In order to achieve this objective, the need to strengthen local capacities for the training of future sectoral experts on climate change has been identified through the promotion of research in key economic sectors.
In this context, GIZ, the Government of Honduras and the Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC) are jointly developing the Young Researchers Programme. After an open call for proposals, twelve research proposals were selected, which incorporate key issues for decarbonisation.
Young people from and for Honduras
Through its call for applications, the programme made a broad appeal for a diverse cohort that addresses different issues and perspectives for climate action. The selected participants are Hondurans between 18 and 30 years of age, of which 67% are women and 33% are men. In addition, those selected come from six cities in the country and three of them are currently studying outside of Honduras (in Mexico and the United States), expanding geographical coverage beyond the Honduran capital.
