Session 20 Community of Practice for Climate Policy Monitoring and Evaluation: Closing Session of 2020

20th virtual exchange session of the Community of Practice for Climate Policy Monitoring and Evaluation.

On Wednesday, December 9, the 20th virtual exchange session of the community of practice for climate policy monitoring and evaluation of climate policies (CoP M&E) was held by the (International Foundation for Administration and Public Policy (FFIIAPP) under the framework of the EUROCLIMA+ programme, with support from the LEDS LAC Platform.

The session entitled 2020 Closing  was focused on opening a dialogue on community work during 2020 and expectations for 2021. Following an introduction to the review of the work carried out in 2020 on the different dates of virtual sessions by Andrés Pirazzoli, coordinator of CoP M&E, the results of a survey previously distributed with the community were reviewed. Subsequently, comments and recommendations were taken from the audience. The main messages from the session are summarised below.

CONCLUSIONS

  • During a 2020 affected by a global pandemic, in a year where we again exceeded the highest temperatures and faced environmental and social disasters linked to climate change, our community has faced two major communication and participation challenges: challenges that have been imposed by the pandemic are: (1) CoP members saturated with virtual spaces (2) replacement of face-to-face meetings with something virtual.
  • In this third year of CoP operation, we had to face some challenges that the health situation imposed on us: recognising the workload of members, replacing plans for sharing a physical space for our annual meeting and workshops, and focusing entirely on "virtual" experiences, which have been the tonic of the year for the entire international community.
  • During 2020, we have had 7 virtual exchange sessions, covering topics prioritised by our membership ranging from regulatory-institutional elements of governance, to technical-methodological aspects of the climate action report, on mitigation and adaptation actions. We were able to consult with experts on specific elements of MRV and M&E, and explore in detail topics such as fair transition and empowerment for climate action.
