Brussels, Belgium, 31 May 2018. EUROCLIMA+, a flagship programme of the European Union on climate change that carries out its activities in 18 countries of Latin America, will participate in European Development Days, an event organized by the European Commission that will take place on June 5 and 6 in Brussels, Belgium.
The European Development Days (EDD) is the largest European forum for international cooperation and development. In its twelfth edition, the main theme of the event will be gender equality and the empowerment and participation of women and girls in sustainable development.
EUROCLIMA+ will participate by explaining the progress and achievements of its implementation, with a special focus on women as key actors in the fight against climate change in Latin America:
“If, for example, you look at the reality of life in Latin America or the rest of the world in general, climate change and the increasing risk of natural disasters and all climatic events are statistically proven data. What is probably not so popularly known is that women are much more exposed to these hazards.” Jolita Butkeviciene, Director of Latin America and the Caribbean, European Union.
EUROCLIMA+ will be at stand 29 in the “EDD Villa”. The programme, in its new phase, provides technical and financial support for the development and application of adaptation and mitigation policies for confronting climate change, facilitating dialogue on regional policies and climate action.
Through its alliances, EUROCLIMA+ seeks to integrate climate change into a framework of policies that also promote economic growth while fostering social equity and strengthening environmental protection.
EUROCLIMA+ is executed by the following implementing agencies: Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), French Development Agency (AFD), Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC), Expertise France, International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and UN Environment.
