EUROCLIMA+ participates in the Spanish National Congress on the Environment

The programme presents communications of the actions it is developing in the Latin American region on Just Transition, Regionalisation of Climate Scenarios and Action for Climate Empowerment.

Madrid, On 31 May, 1, 2 and 3 June, the XV edition of the National Environmental Congress (CONAMA),  will be held in Madrid (Spain), under the slogan "The recovery we want". A meeting marked by the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the possibility of articulating a post-pandemic economic recovery that places the transition towards more just and sustainable societies at the centre:

On the occasion of the 15th edition of the National Environmental Congress, we stressed the need for these strategies to be truly transformative in order to favour an ecological transition that protects people's health and therefore the environment; that generates quality employment and that builds an innovative economic model in response to the challenge of climate change.

In this context, the EUROCLIMA+ programme, through the International and Ibero-America Foundation for Administration and Public Policy (FIIAPP), presents three communications in the section “Dissemination of projects”, aimed at “describing the actions and showing the results of sustainability initiatives and projects of public and private entities".

The programme's proposals are aimed at making visible the importance of mainstreaming the Just Transition approach in climate action, the need to also address adaptation measures so that countries can anticipate the effects by designing plans adjusted to their possible local scenarios, and the relevance that Article 12 of the Paris Agreement - Action for Climate Empowerment - is acquiring in climate policies of the Latin American region.

The communications can be consulted on the congress website:

During the congress, it will also be possible to visit a summary panel of the action Generation of Regionalised Climate Change Scenarios in Central America, developed by the FIIAPP team, in collaboration with the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET), which will be located in the exhibition area.

CONAMA brings together key actors from the public and private sectors, civil society and research that promote the environmental agenda in Spain. It is an opportunity to learn about progress in their implementation and identify best practices that can be transferred to Latin America.
