The Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week (LACCW 2021) is aimed at accelerating collaboration and integrating climate action into the recovery from the global pandemic.
May 10, 2021. Brussels, Belgium. The COVID-19 health crisis highlighted the need for resilience in the face of emerging risks, as well as collaboration to solve the most pressing challenges. The recovery opens an opportunity to address social inequalities and invest in economic development that is good for humanity and nature.
In this context the virtual thematic sessions of LACCW 2021 will be held from May 11-14, hosted by the Government of the Dominican Republic, and organised in collaboration with key partners, the United Nations Development Programme, UN Environment and the World Bank Group. Support comes from regional partners, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Latin American Development Bank.
LACCW 2021 sessions are expected to promote collaboration for:
- Meeting existing commitments, including information on nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and increased transparency
- Incorporating risk-based approaches into planning across all sectors, accelerating adaptation planning and resilience-building
- Providing stakeholders with clarity on low-carbon development pathways for achieving carbon neutrality
LACCW 2021 aims to drive a whole-of-government and society approach that engages governments, the private sector, cities and regions, indigenous communities and civil society around regional climate challenges, and action for achieving the Paris Agreement.
In this scenario, EUROCLIMA+ will have an active participation with the presentation of several events:
- Impact of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) measures and/or technologies on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). May 11 at 15:00 Dominican Rep. time.
