Populations of vulnerable areas in Peru have information on disaster risk prevention and reduction plans for droughts, floods and mass movements.

Within the framework of the EUROCLIMA+ programme, educational materials are designed and produced to provide key information on risk management concepts, plans and regulations to the inhabitants of at-risk areas.

Piura - Peru, Monday, March 29, 2021. The EUROCLIMA+ programme, through the "Risk Management without Borders" project in the Piura region of northwestern Peru, is working on the development of educational guides on Disaster Risk Reduction and Prevention Plans (DRRP) at the district level, which will allow the dissemination of simple and educational information on the subject to the inhabitants of these areas.

The guides incorporate key concepts, the DRRP development process, and regulations. In addition, they highlight critical areas, risk levels and proposals for improving risk management in the project's beneficiary districts. In the first stage, seven districts are incorporated: Vichayal, Miguel Checa, La Huaca and Colán, located in the lower part and the districts of Ayabaca, Sícchez and Jililí, located in the upper part of the Catamayo-Chira transboundary basin.

The project "Risk Management without Borders", part of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme, is co-executed by the Regional Government of Piura in Peru and the Provincial Government of Loja in Ecuador. It is implemented by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation - AECID and the French Development Agency - AFD in partnership with the département Meurthe et Moselle of France, L'observatoire des changements en Amérique Latine (LOCAL), Département L'Aude France and the Province of Viterbo.

Education and information for communities

The brochures produced by the Project will contribute to raising community awareness on risk management and will improve the organisation and prevention of disasters by local populations and authorities, promoting the development and implementation of projects that lead to the reduction of vulnerability to natural phenomena.

The content of this material makes visible the climatological conditions of urban and rural areas in each district, the risks and risk levels in each zone, interculturality and the gender approach, defining the roles and conditions in which women function and how they are vulnerable to disasters due to factors such as lack of access to economic and educational resources, as well as their participation in decision-making.

The material is available in digital form at the following link http://bit.ly/folletosgrsf_peru

The first stage of this project has already completed seven brochures, and a total of 17 brochures will be produced to cover ten more districts in Peru.
