Analysis of the contribution of Nature-based Climate Action Solutions (NbCAS) to the implementation of Mexico's climate targets

In its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), Mexico establishes nature-based solutions as cross-cutting elements in the implementation of the aforementioned commitments, in both mitigation and adaptation components, with a focus on social participation, thereby also supporting the reduction of GHG emissions and the establishment and permanence of carbon reservoirs in ecosystems and agro-ecosystems.

This action aims to generate inputs for the evaluation of the design and implementation of six federal budget programmes from a Nature-based Climate Action Solutions (NbCAS) approach to determine the extent to which they contribute to the fulfilment of the objectives of the National Climate Change Policy (NCCP).

This action is expected to contribute to the implementation of its national climate policy, generating inputs that will be used to evaluate it from a Nature-based Solutions approach.

Conceptual framework

Theoretical-conceptual framework and taxonomy for NbCAS, including a methodology for assessing the incorporation of NbCAS in the design, implementation and results of national plans and federal programmes

Agenda 2030

Analysis of the incorporation of NbCAS in the design of the selected Programmes, considering their contribution to national planning and the 2030 Agenda, and considering case studies of territorial implementation in some states, the participation of communities, as well as the contribution to reducing the gender gap.

Analysis of the degree of mainstreaming of NbCAS into adaptation and mitigation objectives in the PECC and the NDC

Knowledge management

Knowledge transfer for institutional capacity building on mainstreaming NbCAS into the design of federal programmes and plans.
