A virtual seminar that promoted the use of tools that contribute to the work from Communication for Development, towards the construction of experience exchange

processes in the framework of the projects of the EUROCLIMA+ programme.

April 7, San José, Costa Rica. With a participation at the limit of what the webinar system allowed, about 100 people from the different partner countries in Latin America held via Zoom the successful Virtual Seminar Approaches and Tools of Communication for Development (C4D) on April 3. During this first meeting, the aim was to generate a planned of capacity building process that would allow communication to contribute to social change.

Participants included communicators from projects financed by the European Union under the EUROCLIMA+ framework, communicators from the Ministries of Environment of the partner countries in Latin America, technical staff, and others.

At first, the seminar addressed the issue of communication for development, its difference with institutional communication and the importance of using tools that manage to contribute with interactive and strategic processes to develop messages by, for and towards the population benefiting from development projects. Subsequently, a practical presentation was made on the use and application of three C4D tools from a technological platform context; finally, a successful Central American experience was presented on the applied use of various tools in territories that were used to promote population participation and influence social change.

The virtual seminar was given by Rigliana Portugal, Communication and Knowledge Management Specialist, and Gender Focal Point at HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation in Bolivia, with the participation of Judit Vanegas Ferrey, Communication Specialist of the Dutch Service for Development Cooperation (SNV) Central America, who presented a successful C4D experience in the adoption of biogas systems in Nicaragua.

This seminar is coordinated by the EUROCLIMA+ Programme, the Risk Management Sector implemented by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), and the French Agency for Development (AFD) with support from the project "Information, governance and action for drought risk reduction in Peru and Bolivia in a context of climate change", carried out by the Consortium formed by SENAMHI Bolivia (leader), SENAMHI Peru, HELVETAS Bolivia, HELVETAS Peru, and PREDES.
