The “Bi-national project to reduce the vulnerability of populations and their livelihoods, to threats of drought and flooding in the border areas of Ecuador and Peru”, was launched in Peru under the Euroclima+ Programme framework.

The launch event of the “binational project to reduce the vulnerability of populations and their livelihoods to the threats of drought and flooding in border areas of Ecuador and Peru” was attended by the Regional Governor of Piura, Mr. Servando García Correa, Mr. Rafael Dávila de Loja, Mr. Jose Luis Pimentel, General Coordinator of AECID in Peru, and the mayors of the cantons Macará, Espíndola, Sozoranga, Calvas, Quilanga, Gonzamaná, and Zapotillo and the parishes of Mangaurco, Cazaderos and Jimbura, located in the Ecuador - Peru border area.
Through the European Union’s EUROCLIMA+ Programme and under the framework of the Risk Management component implemented by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the French Development Agency (AFD), the binational project between Peru and Ecuador with the objective of “strengthening the capacities of binational institutions in Disaster Risk Management for the border territory of Ecuador and Peru, to reduce vulnerability in the population and its main livelihoods, to the threats of drought and floods”, an intervention that will benefit 20 local governments with a population of 150,999 inhabitants.
As explained by Fredy Feijó, the binational director of the project “it will contribute to reducing the vulnerability of the border area of Ecuador and Peru; our priority is to strengthen public institutions for governance in the area of risk management, prepare the border civilian population and improve access to information for the prevention of threats with an emphasis on droughts and floods”.
