The main objective of this component is to achieve a substantial reduction in the risk of disasters associated with drought and floods in the 18 countries of Latin America that participate in the EUROCLIMA+ programme.
Toward this end, actions aligned with the needs expressed by the countries in their NDCs or other national climate change policies and plans will be supported, as will the priorities or actions indicated in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
In July 2017, AECID and AFD published a joint call for the presentation of expressions of interest with preformulated projects. A total of 186 proposals were evaluated, about half of them involving at least two of the countries participating in the EUROCLIMA+ programme. The largest number of them (54,29%) addressed aspects of information, analysis, communication, awareness-raising and early warning systems. The scope of governance, planning and regulatory frameworks was contemplated in 44% of the proposals. Only 3 proposals focused on aspects of climate finance.
The evaluation committee selected 11 proposals to proceed to the next formulation phase (preparation of the full proposal), suggesting the presentation of a joint formulation to some of them, based on their potential synergy. In this way, 8 complete proposals will be finally evaluated.
The final resolution of the call for proposals is expected during the first half of June and beneficiary institutions should start activities in September and October 2018.
