22 February, 2013. Bogotá, Colombia. "Results and perspectives on climate change EUROCLIMA 2010-2016" is the title of the event that brought together more than 70 Latin American and European experts on 25, 26 and 27 February in the city of Bogota, Colombia.
The meeting was held in the framework of the Second Regional Seminar of the EUROCLIMA programme, funded by the European Union, an initiative that seeks to contribute to improving the knowledge of decision-makers and the scientific community in Latin America on climate change, in order to integrate this issue into sustainable development strategies. The event was organised in close coordination with the Directorate of Economic, Social and Environmental Affairs of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During this Seminar, lectures were given on the results achieved in scientific and socio-economic areas of climate change, EU development cooperation, international negotiations, among others. Results of studies on climate change monitoring and adaptation, land degradation and vulnerability of marine-coastal infrastructures were also presented. In addition, the representatives of governmental and academic bodies present analysed and defined the activities to be implemented in the extension phase of the EUROCLIMA programme.
"Our aim is to analyse progress and lessons learned during these three years with EUROCLIMA and to prioritise actions for 2016, considering the risk and vulnerability due to climate change and its effects on sustainable development in the region," underscored Catherine Ghyoot, EUROCLIMA Programme Manager, EuropeAid, European Commission.
Ghyoot added that this Seminar is an event that was aimed at the beneficiaries of the Programme, but given the importance of the topic on Monday the 25th all sessions were broadcast live to the general public through seminariocolombia.euroclima.org
Representatives from all Latin American beneficiary countries were invited to this Seminar. Delegates from the European Commission, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC), the Ibero-American Network of Climate Change Offices (RIOCC) and the Regional Portal for Technology Transfer and Action on Climate Change in Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will also participate.
