The global meeting will be held in Berlin, Asia, Africa and Latin America, in the latter it will be held in person in the city of Bogotá.
The fifth Transport and Climate Change Week(TCCW), organised by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMU), will take place from 9 to 13 May 2022.
The TCCW is a space that aims to facilitate connections, strengthen links for cooperation, share progress, solutions and stories of change for transforming sustainable transport and mobility and influence decision making and climate action.
In this edition, through the four regional hubs located in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America, the international community for transport will have a space for learning about relevant experiences through debate and exchange on sustainable mobility and climate action in the sector.
In the case of Latin America, the region will meet face-to-face in Bogotá and some of the activities can be followed online.
Monday 9 May will focus on events organised by our partners: the Asia Development Bank (ADB), the PtX Hub, the TUMI initiative and REN21 will host the sessions. The second day of the week will focus on Africa and we will discuss active mobility, electromobility, governance, use of data, among others.
Wednesday 11 May will be the day of the Latin American regional conference, which will start with the high-level session where our guests will discuss the challenges associated with the gaps between the targets of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and the actions implemented by Latin American countries to achieve the 1.5°C reduction of global warming.
Another session will discuss how each country in the region is considering achieving its mitigation goals through the transformation of the transport sector, and how these activities could affect their overall economies.
We will also learn about examples from Mexico and Colombia of recovery and improvement of urban public spaces through tactical urbanism as a climate change mitigation and adaptation measure.
Finally, on Thursday, the Berlin hub will be responsible for providing a global perspective, based on the lessons gathered on the different days.
To participate remotely in Transport Week, we invite you to register on the website https://www.transportweek.org/, where you will have access to the global agenda. Here you will also have access to the recorded sessions, as well as the possibility to connect and interact with other participants.
Latin American Hub: Planning, public policies, last mile and sustainable transport financing
The on-site programme, featuring representatives from the region's transport ministries, will discuss the importance of putting people at the centre of planning for national transport policy, public transport, the last mile and access to funding opportunities in Latin America.
On Monday 9th we will talk about the Right to the City and its scope in the conception and methodology of urban public policies, including mobility planning. We will also hold a discussion on sustainable mobility with a gender perspective and its projection in public policies.
In addition, we will present examples of incorporating user experience in transport and mobility planning and governance, with an emphasis on vulnerable groups. Finally, we will discuss mobility planning as part of a larger city planning that demands tools for cross-sectoral and cross-project integration.
On Tuesday 10th we will present different studies and perspectives on the role of the transport sector for a sustainable post-COVID-19 recovery in Latin America. In another session, representatives from Latin American cities will share, through examples and ongoing projects, innovative approaches that help to address logistics challenges from the public administration of sustainable goods delivery in cities.
Experts and officials will also share the challenges, opportunities and benefits of developing new actions to digitalise active mobility in three countries of the region.
Meanwhile, on Thursday 12th we will have an informative session on financing alternatives for sustainable urban mobility, where perspectives from academia, technical advisors, non-governmental organisations and the financial sector will be shared. We will also present urban mobility projects that meet the technical criteria to be bankable from two perspectives: the city and the banks.
Finally, success stories of local projects that accessed different sources of funding will be presented.
