Through cooperation between the European Union and the Ministry of Transport, work will be done to promote green recovery in Colombian cities.
Bogotá, Colombia, 17 September. - On 15 September, the initial act was signed for the development of the National Strategy for Active Mobility in Colombia, a project that aims to generate spaces and alternatives for reducing pollution in the country's cities.
This project is carried out in the framework of the EUROCLIMA+ programme through Country Dialogues between the European Union and the Ministry of Transport of Colombia and its Environmental Affairs and Sustainable Development Group. Through this Strategy, instruments and guidelines will be generated to enable green recovery in Colombian cities.
“The Ministry of Transport will always look for the necessary tools to raise awareness about the importance of active and sustainable mobility that not only positively impacts the actors in the sector, but also the citizens in general," said Transport Minister Ángela María Orozco.
During the launch meeting of the consultancy with the EAFIT University, a 9-month work route was foreseen, in which a diagnosis of the current state of active mobility in the country will be developed.
Likewise, the National Active Mobility Strategy will be formulated, which will include, among other aspects, the gender perspective as a cross-cutting axis, with a focus on the monitoring and evaluation of actions for the promotion of active modes, the development of an action plan and the inclusion of a cross-cutting knowledge management component with the participation of related entities.
Active mobility is mobility that only involves the human body in moving around. This includes cycling and walking. The implementation of strategies that promote active mobility will have a decisive impact on the environment, reducing pollution.
"We continue to actively work on processes to promote safe mobility in the country through strong actions involving all road actors, especially those targeting vulnerable actors such as pedestrians and active mobility actors," said Luis Lota, Director of the National Road Safety Agency.
The new EUROCLIMA+ project aims to fulfil Colombia's commitments to the international community on adaptation to the adverse effects of climate change. The final results of the consultancy will be published to receive comments and suggestions from the public before moving on to a phase of implementation and national articulation.
