With support from AFD through EUROCLIMA+, the Argentinean city incorporates sustainable mobility mechanisms into its planning.
Cordoba, Argentina, 22 July 2021 -- In the framework of the EUROCLIMA+ programme, funded by the European Union, the French Development Agency (AFD) in support of the Municipality of Cordoba, Argentina, in April awarded the Update of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and the formulation of Mobility Strategies in the Central Area (EMAC) of the city to the SAFEGE/DVDH/TRANSAMO consortium: IRV, Pares, National University of Cordoba (UNC) and the Habitar Project.
“The Mobility Plan represents a great opportunity to continue managing urban mobility based on evidence and incorporating potential sustainable mobility mechanisms, such as the optimisation of the transport network, the improvement of the primary road network, the promotion of a cycling culture and the improvement of conditions for pedestrians. The Euroclima+ project will undoubtedly help to improve safe and accessible mobility conditions for the people of Cordoba who move throughout the city," said Justo José Casado, Córdoba's Undersecretary of Traffic and Road Safety Education.
This consultancy will have a preliminary phase, which will take place between June and September 2021, in order to establish the general mobility situation in the city of Cordoba, considering the context of the "new mobility" caused by COVID-19. Once this phase is completed, the development of the project will start for a period of 13 months.
This project is part of the Urban Mobility sector of EUROCLIMA+ and it has an overall amount of 500,000 euros. It aims to update the SUMP within an operational strategy guiding the development of the integrated public transport network to achieve greater efficiency, improve traffic management and road safety, improve infrastructure and facilities for non-motorised transport, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Plan's activities include a diagnosis of the transport sector through the collection of primary information, the definition of a vision, strategic objectives and scenario building, a communications plan for the participation of key city stakeholders, and monitoring, reporting and support for the implementation of the pilot project.
“This joint work is adapted to the pursuit of common objectives on environmental protection, social cohesion and sustainable development to solve common problems that affect all local governments. Undoubtedly, the Euroclima+ project is a unique opportunity for our municipality that is leading a process of intelligent transformation in the provision of quality services for all Cordobeses", highlighted Alejandra Torres, Secretary of Planning, Modernisation and International Relations of the city of Cordoba.
