During the diplomatic visit to the Mexican metropolis, the EUROCLIMA+ project studies were presented.
25 June 2021.- In the framework of their diplomatic visit to the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (AMG), representatives of the European Union (EU) and its Member States learned about the progress of the EUROCLIMA+ international cooperation programme for the transition to sustainable urban mobility in the Mexican metropolis.
The General Coordinator of Territorial Management, Patricia Martinez, and the General Director of the Metropolitan Planning Institute (Imeplan), Mario Silva, led the visit to some points of sustainable urban intervention in the metropolis, highlighting their link with the EUROCLIMA+ projects implemented in the region.
The first tour took place on Line 3 of the Urban Electric Train, where visitors got a close look at the electronic payment system offered by the My Integrated Mobility Model as part of the intermodality that has been used to achieve an integrated, interconnected, efficient and quality system.
In the second tour of Paseo Alcalde, the delegation of European representatives took a ride on public bicycles of the My Bici system to get to know the newly created infrastructure. Currently, in the framework of EUROCLIMA+, a study on cycling mobility is being carried out, which will serve as input for the updating of the Integrated Sustainable Mobility Plan (PIMUS).
“In all the mobility projects that we have been developing, the urban renewal component is important, in order to recover public space, work on community integration and dignify the heritage of all, which is the city," said Patricia Martínez.
Finally, in the vicinity of the Guadalajara Cathedral, a presentation was given on the Metropolitan Displacement Analysis (ADM) project, a digital tool for travel planning that will help identify the mobility patterns of the inhabitants of the AMG. The data generated and subsequently collected will provide Imeplan with inputs on origin, destination, travel mode, travel times, among other data. They will function as fundamental inputs for the dynamic updating of the Integrated Sustainable Mobility Plan (PIMUS).
"The information from the complementary studies with a gender perspective and the Metropolitan Travel Analysis project will help the citizens of this metropolis to plan their public transport journeys and help us to improve the planning and operation of the systems," emphasised Mario Silva Rodríguez.
On behalf of the European Union, German Cooperation for Sustainable Development in Mexico (GIZ) is working in cooperation with Imeplan on the development of the projects "Update of the Integrated Sustainable Mobility Plan" and "Analysis of Metropolitan Displacement".
