Summary of the main project activities for the FBE component - June 2019
June 28, 2019. Learn about the main activities, field trips and knowledge resources generated by the projects of the Forest, Biodiversity and Ecosystems (FBE) component.
The FBE component projects, executed by the Expertise France and GIZ agencies, began implementation in early 2019, in different areas of intervention at the local level, including protected areas, forests, parks and nature reserves, watersheds and sub-basins, in local communities and municipalities in the 12 countries of the region.
The joint launch of the projects was carried out in January of this year, in Valle de Bravo, Mexico, where the implementing partners, national focal points and the implementing agencies of EUROCLIMA + participated.
Starting in February, the projects organised launch events in their respective countries. Below are the main impacts generated:
[June 2019]
- Pronatura México and ANAMMA started a tour in Brazil and launched a project under the framework of the Brazil Environmental Management Forum.
[May 2019]
[April 2019]
[March 2019]
- Mexico and Brazil join forces to improve the resilience of local communities
- Costa Rica and Peru form an alliance to develop a programme for harvesting water in Guanacaste
[February 2019]
Meet some of the protagonists
Marcela Machaca, President of the Bartolomé Aripaylla Association (ABA - Ayacucho, Peru) tells us about the technique of harvesting water and how it developed from a scenario of scarcity.
Mateo Bermudez, coordinator of the binational Honduras-Peru project “Improving land use governance and management" commented on the objectives sought by the project and the importance of cooperation between the two countries. Prepared by Helvetas Honduras.
Gustavo Solano, director of the binational project “Ecosystem services, goods and functions", explains how the project will improve the water supply in Guanacaste (Costa Rica) through water harvesting, and how in Peru, through the application of a payment system for ecosystem services and a water canon in Piura and Ayacucho, will generate incentives to conserve forests.
Tours and field visits
In line with the objectives that these projects aim to achieve, a series of resources are being developed that are contributing to managing and sharing the knowledge generated to date, through tours and field visits.
- In the shadow of the mountain: Salten communities visit Santiago del Estero in Argentina
- Note from the Honduras Green Wood Foundation
Field visit to the Cacao Experimental and Demonstration Centre (CEDEC), to learn about trials for Agroforestry Systems and Cacao grafting, whose experiences could be applied with the project’s beneficiary producers in Honduras.
