The work developed since October 2018 culminates with the presentation of the software for monitoring and reporting the progress of El Salvador's NDC to the ministries involved in its use.

San Salvador, July 23, 2020.- On 15, 16 and 17 July, workshops were held to present and provide training on the software developed to monitor and report progress on the implementation of El Salvador’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). A total of 35 people attended, representing various institutions in the country that will be involved in monitoring the implementation of NDCs, such as the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN), the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT), the National Energy Council (CNE), the National Administration of Aqueducts and Sewerage (ANDA), among others. During the sessions, the process followed throughout the project was presented and a virtual guide to the tool developed was made, carrying out practical cases and clarifying the doubts of the participants.

The web tool developed is the final product of almost two years of work, in which we have collaborated with most of the ministries of the Government of El Salvador in the definition and prioritisation of indicators to measure the progress of their NDCs, as well as in the establishment of the governance framework to be followed from now on.

The system developed contains the existing baselines for the prioritised climate change indicators, while articulated with the existing indicators in the country for reporting on compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Due to the updating process inherent to the NDCs, the software allows adding and deleting of indicators, adding new data to each indicator or visualising and downloading its trajectory and distance to the goal, among other functionalities. In this way, it becomes a tool that will facilitate El Salvador's reporting to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change under the Paris Agreement's Transparency Framework.

All this has been possible thanks to the support of EUROCLIMA+ to El Salvador, where FIIAPP F.S.P. has been the implementing agency. The programme contributes to the exchange of information on policies to combat climate change, knowledge management and capacity building in Latin American institutions and actors relevant to the fight against climate change from a regional, multi-country or national approach.

The project has been coordinated by the Climate Change Unit of MARN of the Government of El Salvador and it has had technical assistance from a consortium of companies of Spain and El Salvador, formed by Factor CO2, Metroeconomica and Eco-Ingenieros.
