Las Convenciones de Río consisten en tres acuerdos internacionales que abordan temas específicos y que a su vez son complementarios. En ellas se marcan objetivos globales (Figura 1), que se disgregan en metas nacionales propuestos por cada país signatario. Estas son: i) Convenio sobre Diversidad Biológica (CBD), ii) Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático (CMNUCC), y iii) Convención de Lucha contra la Desertificación (CNULD).
